WORLD TUBERCULOSIS DAY 2010 OBSERVED WITH THE THEME TO SPREAD AWARENESS

World Tuberculosis Day, falling on March 24 each year, is designed to build public awareness that Tuberculosis needs to be completely eliminated with the joint efforts of all. Tuberculosis or TB is a common and often deadly infectious disease, which usually attacks the lungs but can also affect other parts of the body. It is spread through the air, when people who have the disease cough, sneeze, or spit ]. World TB Day on March 24 commemorates the date in 1882 when Dr. Robert Koch announced his discovery of the bacteria that cause tuberculosis. World TB Day provides an opportunity to communicate TB-related problems and solutions and to support worldwide TB-control efforts. We spoke with Dr Prashant Sheth who says that one should be very careful by not spitting in public and by using a handkerchief to cover the mouth. Today the cure for TB is very simple unlike before where TB was considered to be a dreaded disease, however on World TB Day we must do our bit to ensure that this disease is eliminated completely from the society.
