The fisher folk of Koliwada Worli have strongly opposed the construction of the Bandra Worli Sea link project and have demanded that priority should be given to them in development projects. Bandra Worli sea link project is one of the most awaited project of the state. Likely to be completed by January 2009, the project is being constructed at a cost of Rs 1400 crore. Once completed, The link will increase the route options for passengers travelling from the island city to the western suburbs and vice-versa, which would lead to decongestion of Mahim causeway and the western corridor. However, the peoject has also affected the livelihood of the fisherfolk of Worli. Some have voiced that the pillars in the sea will create problem for them while fishing in the sea.
